The Man Standing Next

En effet, le thriller politique est une adaptation de l’histoire d’assassinat du général Park Chung-Hee en 1979. Voici un résumé complet de The Man Standing Next.

L’homme debout a commencé lorsque la Corée a été entièrement contrôlée par le président Park (Lee Sung-min) dans les années 1970. Le président Park était le cerveau et le titulaire du contrôle total de la Korean Intelligence Agency (KCIA). Il a fait le chef de l’Agence coréenne de renseignement (KCIA) Kim Gyu-Pyeong (Lee Byung-hun) dans la deuxième plus haute position de leadership coréen.

L’augmentation des tensions politiques a conduit Kim Gyu-Pyeong à tuer le président Park. Cependant, 40 jours avant le meurtre, au milieu de situations critiques qui se sont produites au niveau du leader, Park Yong-Gak (Kwak Do-won) a témoigné de manière significative des procès aux États-Unis.

Park Yong-Gak est l’ancien chef de la KCIA qui connaît parfaitement tous les secrets d’État et les opérations militaires de la Corée. À un moment donné, il a été exilé aux États-Unis, où l’enquête du « Koreagate » était en cours.

Au procès, Park Yong-Gak a témoigné contre les affaires de la Corée du Sud. Le témoignage a fait Kim Gyu-Pyeong et Kwang Sang-cheon (Lee Hee-joon) élaborer un plan pour l’empêcher de se produire.

The Man Standing Next a été adapté d’un roman non-fiction intitulé Chief of Namsan (Namsanui Bujangdeul) de Kim Choong-sik. L’inscription a été diffusée dans le journal Dong-A Korea en 1990-1992, racontant l’histoire vraie du chef de KCIA Kim Hyong-UK et son départ.

Les histoires politiques ne sont pas nouvelles pour Lee Byung-hun. Il a joué dans un certain nombre de drames et de films sur le thème politique tels que Ashfall, Joint Security Area, Inside Men et Mr. Sunshine. De même, Kwak Do-won a également souvent joué dans des films populaires coréens tels que Mother, The Yellow Sea, Tazza: Hidden Card, The Wailing, et Asura: The City of Madness.
