Situé au cœur de la Flandre du XVIIIe siècle, Thieves of the Wood est un drame d’époque assez bon, même s’il tombe un peu trop loin dans les eaux mélodramatiques vers la fin de la série. Pour la plupart cependant, le spectacle fait bien de jongler avec son casting central de personnages, avec Jan le plus sympathique sur le tas. Avec quelques visuels graveleux et une conception de production décente, ce drame flamand est certainement suffisant pour justifier une montre, même s’il est peu probable d’enflammer la scène dramatique d’époque.
Certes, je ne sais pas beaucoup de choses sur cette période de l’histoire, qui est partie pourquoi le drame est si attrayant. Au cœur de celui-ci se trouve le soldat de retour Jan, qui découvre que la corruption est répandue dans sa ville natale, en partie grâce aux malades et pauvres exilés dans les forêts. Avec une division de classe claire ce début agissant comme carburant pour les conflits à venir, de l’autre côté de la clôture est Baru, un nouvel huissier désireux d’inculquer la réforme et les changements. Le troisième et dernier scénario principal tourne autour d’Héloïse et ensemble, ce trio de personnages ancre essentiellement le drame aux tropes habituels que vous attendez.
Il ya des indices d’une intrigue Robin des Bois-esque à l’œuvre ici et tout au long de la série la plupart du drame tourne autour d’une route en cours de construction qui agit comme le nœud de conflit pour les deux parties. Comme la série se développe, cela ne change légèrement pour incorporer des thèmes plus romantiques, mais il ya un couple de belles torsions tard qui garder les choses intéressantes. Je ne vais pas donner trop loin, mais il suffit de dire si vous aimez le drame de caractère et des éléments savonneuses, Voleurs du bois est une assez bonne option.
Esthétiquement au moins, le spectacle semble grand. Il ya un contraste frappant entre les riches et les pauvres ici, délibérément présenté à travers des plans extrêmes de près de la boue et la saleté, tandis que de larges plans de balayage des intérieurs somptueux offre l’inverse pour les riches. C’est un truc subtil, mais qui fonctionne bien pour renforcer les thèmes qui se jouent tout au long de la saison.
En termes de conception de costumes et de production, Thieves of the Wood fait bien et il ya un réel effort pour rendre cela aussi authentique que possible. Au début, il ya un mot de malédiction spécifique utilisé que j’ai dû lever les idées pour s’assurer qu’il était digne pour la période de temps, mais au-delà de cela, la série fait bien de garder les choses cohérentes et crédibles.
Avec des visuels décents et un cadre inhabituel pas souvent mis en valeur, Thieves of the Wood ne réinvente pas vraiment la roue, mais fait un assez bon travail en gardant les choses engageantes néanmoins.
